I love dodge diesels because there huge fast and get good mileage. Currently Im working on a 96 with lots of rust just the way I like it! I have a 100 fuel plate installed which ups me from 200~300 hp and somewhere around 600 ftlbs of tq and 3k rpm governor springs which raises the rev limit from a wild and crazy 2400 rpms to a mind blistering 3400 rpms!!! If youve only driven gas powered vehicles your probably amused and confused at the same time, but be raw power of a well built diesel engine is a force to be reckoned with.(search youtube for twin turbo cummins)
Next on the list is a singe stack and perhaps a second turbo to keep the stock one company ;) I hope to shoot for a modest 500 hp and somehwere around 800 foot lbs while still getting the 24 miles per gallon that Im getting.
These trucks are cheap and easy to mod race and roughhouse with. These trucks dont break as easy as a smaller modded vehicles do because they were built overkill for what was needed. 1000lb engine to move a 5900 lb truck
Ill post some pics up as I progress and Ill have to post some vids so pple understand the wrath of diesel dodges.

Mines for sale for 5200 ;) Ive been playing with the idea of selling it but the more I mod it the more likely Ill be to keep it. Occasionally you can find a 5speed for under 5grand Ive found four in the past 5 months and bought one of them. (Not the best deal of the four I found) Go with a 94-98 because the injection pump can be moded with the spare change you take to coinstar. The 98 and up electronic/mechanical pump is more costly to mod and the injection pumps eat themselves to pieces from time to time and cost 1500-3000 to replace.
Food for thought when building a diesel.
Too lean = low egt and lack of power Too rich = high EGTs which is the opposite of gasoline vehicles.
Technically you cant overboost a diesel you over fuel it. My wastegates are removed and welded shut. My last electrical pump dodge's chip regulated boost at 35 psi with a fuel limit that prevented over boosting. My current setup doesnt run enough fuel to max out the turbo.
Diesels do not run Vacuum because they do not have a throttle body or a butterfly valve, therefor our boost gauges traditionally read only positive psi and blow off valves usually wont even blow off on a diesel unless its running some crazy amounts of fuel.
I will be shooting for 60 psi of boost max which is 25 over what Im running now.
maybe if i didnt just buy this 240. maybe my next thing is a big black smoking polluting diesel! i love that they make what DOUBLE the tq compared to hp....

of course, anything that revs under 5000 will make more tq then hp, the higher they rev towards 5200 the more hp, anything over 5200 hp will be more than tq

Thanks for the reminder ;) hp and torque always cross at 5200 rpms so in theory if I toss in my 4k rpm kit that lets me go to 4600ish rpm's I should be over 500hp... Think there is any truth to this theory? My only concern is that at 3600 rpms the engine sounds like a bag of kittens being thrown into a wood chipper, I cant imagine what 4000+ sounds like!

i think i may be in the market for a dodge diesel after i get rid of my honda fix... i still can remember the trip we drove your black cummins to the adirondacks... nick driving it coming out of the toll booth and the ass going sideways without effort haha. that thing felt and sounded like you were in a eighteen wheeler:cool: not to mention it was fast as F*&K even with just the edge juice.
BAHAHA bag full of kittens!! thats the kinda of stuff i would say...

It is badass though...

Today Im boosting the milage to 50mpg by slightly lowering boost and shedding some weight and displacement swapping the auto for a 5speed. This mod was simple and easy and took little wrenching. I just bought a TDI jetta and BAM! 50 mpg. Quickest and easiest way to get 50mpg out of your diesel.
